Fear Not! (Sunday's texts)

Here are three takeaways from the lectionary texts for this Sunday

First: Grace That Reorders Our Fears

When Jesus calls us to follow him, He doesn’t promise an easy path. He promises his presence. And that changes everything.

Grace doesn’t just comfort us in our fear—it transforms our fear.
Grace reshapes our loyalties, our desires, and our courage.
Grace teaches us to trust Christ more than we trust our anxieties.

If you’re facing conflict or uncertainty today, hear this good news:
You do not walk alone. Grace is already at work in you.

“Do not be afraid… you are worth more than many sparrows.” — Matthew 10:31

Second: When Loyalties Collide

Sometimes following Jesus brings us into tension with the people and patterns we love most.

Family expectations. Cultural pressures. Personal ambitions.

But Jesus doesn’t call us to fear—He calls us to faithfulness.
And the Spirit gives us the courage to live it.

Sanctifying grace is the slow, steady work of God reshaping us into Christ’s likeness. It is grace that gives us the strength to choose love, truth, and obedience even when it costs us something.

If you feel torn today, remember:
Grace is stronger than fear. Christ is with you.

Third: Courage Grows Where Grace Lives

Jeremiah felt overwhelmed.
The disciples felt afraid.
We often feel the same.

But courage doesn’t come from our personality—it comes from God’s presence.

As grace takes root in us, courage begins to grow.
We learn to trust God more than our fears.
We learn to love Christ more than approval.
We learn to follow Jesus not because it’s easy, but because He is worthy.

Fear not! Grace is changing everything.

Prayer
Lord, you know my fears and the conflicts within me. You see the loyalties that pull at my heart and the pressures that weigh on my spirit. Yet you call me to follow you with courage and trust. By your grace, make me alive to Christ and dead to everything that keeps me from you. Let your Spirit reshape my desires, reorder my loves, and strengthen my resolve. When I feel overwhelmed like Jeremiah, be the fire in my bones. When I feel afraid like the disciples, remind me that I am held in your care. Give me the courage to choose faithfulness over comfort, truth over approval, and love over fear. Make me more like Jesus today. Amen.
